Counselling in English, Hindi, and Punjabi

Pallavi's academic work before she came to practice was on sex trafficking and human trafficking.

That is not the usual starting point for a counselling career, and it leaves a mark on how someone works. It means taking seriously that a person's difficulties often sit inside circumstances they did not choose and that the most important thing in a first conversation is usually whether someone feels safe enough to be honest.

She works with clients in English, Hindi, and Punjabi, which for many people in Brampton is the difference between describing a feeling and actually having it in the room.

Counselling in Hindi and Punjabi

Many people in Brampton conduct their whole working life in English and still find it is not the language their feelings live in.

You can be completely fluent, give presentations, and handle every piece of official business in English, but when you sit down to describe something painful, the words can still feel flat. The account is accurate, yet it still feels untrue.

English, Hindi, and Punjabi

Pallavi works in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. Clients are not asked to pick one and stay there. Many people use English for most of a session, switching to Hindi or Punjabi when something matters or when a phrase exists in one language but not the other.

If it would help to speak in a language other than English, please say so when you book.

What You Can Talk About With Pallavi

Depending on your needs and her professional scope, counselling with Pallavi may cover:

  • Anxiety and stress management
  • Depression and low mood
  • Trauma and emotional healing
  • Postpartum recovery and adjustment
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Anger management
  • Life transitions and personal growth
  • Family and relationship challenges
  • Identity exploration
  • Cultural and cross-cultural challenges

If you are dealing with something that another member of the team could support better, she will say so.

Postpartum and the First Year

The period after a birth is one of the least honestly described experiences there is.

The expectation is joy, and for many people it arrives alongside exhaustion, anxiety, a body that does not feel like theirs, and an identity that changed overnight without consultation. Some people feel very little at all and are frightened by that. Others feel a constant low hum of dread about something happening to the baby.

It is common, it is treatable, and it is not a verdict on anyone's capacity as a parent.

In households where extended family is closely involved, there can be an added layer. A great deal of advice, very little privacy, and few opportunities to say that you are not coping without it becoming a family matter.

Identity, Culture, and the Space Between

Managing more than one set of expectations at once.

A recurring theme in Pallavi's work is people managing more than one set of expectations at once.

Young adults whose sense of what they want has moved away from what their parents planned for them. People raised here by parents raised elsewhere, translating in both directions since childhood. Newer arrivals are rebuilding a life while everyone at home assumes they have made it.

None of this is a failure to adapt. It is the ordinary experience of living between cultures, and there is room for it here. Equally, if your background is not the point, it will not be treated as the explanation for everything.

Her Approach

Pallavi's training in counselling psychology is broad rather than tied to a single method, and she works on what a client needs rather than applying one approach to everyone.

01

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Her additional workshop training informs work on the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and the patterns that keep a difficulty in place.

02

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Her workshop training informs work on managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, and staying steady in situations that usually escalate.

Both are described here as informing her practice rather than as standalone treatment programs, because that is an honest account of workshop-level training. Your therapist will discuss what may suit you within her training and scope.

Is Pallavi the Right Therapist for Me?

She may be a particularly suitable fit if you are looking for someone who brings:

  • Counselling in Hindi or Punjabi as well as English
  • A strong academic grounding in counselling psychology
  • Experience with trauma and emotional healing
  • Experience with postpartum adjustment
  • Awareness of how circumstances, power, and pressure shape what a person is dealing with
  • Experience with cultural and generational expectations within families
  • Weekend and evening availability, including Sundays

If you are unsure, the free consultation exists for exactly that. It is a conversation about what has been happening, not a commitment, and part of its purpose is to work out who is the right person for you to see.

If the fit is not right once you have started, say so. Changing therapists is a reasonable request.

Questions People Often Ask Her

How long will therapy take?

There is no standard number of sessions. It depends on what you are working on and what you want to be different, and it is reviewed as you go rather than decided upfront.

Will anyone find out I am seeing a therapist?

Counselling is confidential; within legal and professional limits, your therapist will explain clearly at the start. Your family, your employer, and your doctor are not informed unless you ask for that.

Does needing therapy mean I am weak or that I have failed?

No. It is one of the most common hesitations people bring, and it rarely survives the first session. Recognizing that something has become difficult to carry alone is not a failure of character.

What does it cost, and will my insurance cover it?

Fees are published, and coverage depends on your plan and on the professional designation of the clinician you see.
