About C.S. Counselling

Understanding You Is Where Healing Begins

Some of the most difficult things in life are also the hardest to explain.

You may be carrying anxiety that other people cannot see. A relationship may feel increasingly distant. Your family may be struggling to communicate. You may be adjusting to a major change, questioning yourself or simply realizing that handling everything alone is becoming exhausting.

At C.S. Counselling & Consulting Services, we believe counselling should begin with something simple but important:

Understanding the person before trying to solve the problem.

Since 2011, C.S. Counselling has provided professional mental health and counselling support to individuals, couples, children, youth and families.

Clients can meet with our team in person at our Brampton counselling practice or access virtual counselling from across Ontario.

Professional counselling support

More Than a Decade of Supporting People Through Difficult Moments

C.S. Counselling was established with the belief that people need more than clinical information when they are struggling.

They need a place where they can speak openly.

A place where their experiences are taken seriously.

And a professional who is willing to listen before making assumptions.

The practice is led by Coslyn Selby, RSW, a psychotherapist and Registered Social Worker with more than 20 years of professional counselling experience.

Her professional background has included counselling work connected with government agencies, hospitals, courts, law-enforcement services, probation and parole services, women's shelters and community organizations.

That experience has helped shape the way C.S. Counselling approaches mental health today.

We understand that emotional difficulties rarely exist separately from the rest of a person's life. Relationships, family, culture, work, immigration experiences, responsibilities and previous experiences may all influence what someone is going through.

That is why we try to understand the whole person, not simply the concern that brought them through the door.

Our Approach: Listen. Understand. Support.

Our philosophy can be summarized in three words:

01

Listen

We begin by hearing what you have been experiencing without assuming we already understand your situation.

02

Understand

We explore your concerns in the context of your relationships, experiences, strengths, culture, family and goals.

03

Support

Together, you and your therapist can explore an appropriate direction based on your needs and the clinician's professional training and competence.

Different clients may benefit from different approaches.

Depending on the therapist and the concerns being addressed, counselling may incorporate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness-informed strategies, psychotherapy and other appropriate therapeutic modalities.

The goal is not to fit you into a therapy technique.

The goal is to understand what may fit you.

Connected counselling care

The C.S. Connected Care Approach

Looking Beyond the Reason You First Reached Out

What brings someone to counselling is not always the whole story.

Anxiety may affect relationships. Family stress may influence emotional well-being. Low confidence may affect work or decision-making. Immigration, culture, responsibilities or a major life change may also be connected to what someone is experiencing.

The C.S. Connected Care Approach reflects how we bring these different parts of a person's experience together.

Rather than beginning with a therapy technique, we begin by understanding the person.

From there, we consider the connections between:

  • Your emotional well-being
  • Relationships and family
  • Culture and language
  • Life experiences
  • Current responsibilities and pressures
  • Your goals for counselling
  • Therapist fit
  • Appropriate counselling support
  • Therapeutic approaches
  • In-person or virtual access

Not every area will be relevant to every client.

You decide which parts of your story matter.

The C.S. Connected Care Approach can be summarized as:

Listen. Understand. Connect. Support.

A Team With Different Perspectives and Professional Backgrounds

Finding the right therapist is personal.

Professional qualifications matter, but so does whether you feel comfortable talking to the person sitting across from you.

C.S. Counselling brings together professionals from counselling, psychotherapy and social-work backgrounds.

Our team includes clinicians with different:

  • Professional credentials
  • Areas of practice
  • Therapeutic approaches
  • Educational backgrounds
  • Languages
  • Cultural experiences
  • Populations they support

This allows clients to explore therapist options according to their concerns, preferences and therapist availability.

Counselling that respects culture and language

Counselling That Respects Culture, Language and Your Story

Sometimes the easiest language for everyday conversation is not the easiest language for talking about emotions.

C.S. Counselling works with clients from diverse cultural, linguistic and personal backgrounds.

Multilingual counselling may be available in languages including English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati, depending on therapist availability.

But culturally responsive counselling means more than speaking another language.

Family expectations, immigration, identity, relationships, community experiences and cultural values may sometimes influence emotional well-being.

We do not assume that these things define your experience.

Instead, we give you the space to decide which parts of your story matter to you.

Professional Recognition, Credentials & Visibility

Trust Should Be Built on Real Professional Information

Three Best Rated

Recognition can help demonstrate professional visibility, but it should never replace what matters most when choosing a therapist:

Professional qualifications. Appropriate training. Experience. Therapist fit. And a counselling relationship where you feel heard and respected.
