Acculturation – Fitting in at work, School, or Community

Are you experiencing feelings of sadness, isolation, and confusion after immigrating to Canada? Are you having a hard time fitting in at school, work, or the community, in general? Then look no further, because Hastee has a wide variety of experience spanning 10+ years working with new immigrants, refugees, and also, first-, second-, and third-generation youth and adults in Canada. She has worked in non-profit organizations and private practices providing services such as individual, couples and families, and group counselling and psychotherapy to new immigrants, using the therapeutic sessions to provide warm and understanding guidance that is supported by her own journey of immigrating to Canada at the age of 12, 20+ years ago. Hastee is available primarily virtually in Ontario, at this time, with future possibility of expansion to allow for in-person sessions in the East end of the Greater Toronto Area. In addition to being fluent in English, Hastee also speaks fluent Gujarati and Hindi. Furthermore, she is familiar with the Urdu, Punjabi, and Marathi languages. Please contact us for further information.

Depression

Leaving your home country to immigrate to a new environment and acculturate into a new culture can be challenging for many, if not all those who experience this journey. It can mean that you experience homesickness leading to feelings of great sadness, a dysfunction in your routine, and physical changes to your health and well-being. The good news is that you don’t have to go through it alone and can receive guidance and feedback based on lived experience from our qualifying psychotherapist, Hastee, who is on our team to support you if you resonate with the above. She is an immigrant to Canada, herself, and has supported people who are going through the same struggles she faced as a teenager, and now, as an adult, for over ten years. Over and above her lived experiences, Hastee has amassed a vast array of knowledge regarding the biological, psychological, and social effects of acculturation and immigration through her Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She is well-equipped to support your complex and individual needs. She is able to communicate in multiple languages of Indian-origin such as Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi, and Marathi. She is available virtually, at this time, with future potential for in-person sessions in the East end of the GTA. We welcome you to reach out to enquire about booking an appointment with Hastee.

Stress – new refugees, IFHP, navigating gaining status

Are you an immigrant, refugee, or asylum-seeker new to Canada trying to navigate the personal, social, and legal processes of gaining status? Do you experience stress, anxious and repetitively negative thoughts, and/or extremely overwhelming feelings stemming from your past trauma in life? If you receive health coverage through the Interim Federal Health Plan (IFHP), then you might be eligible for low-cost psychotherapy and counselling sessions with our qualifying psychotherapist, Hastee. She is a registered provider with the Medavie Blue Cross insurance provider, as part of the IFHP program and has extensive experience providing psychotherapy and counselling services for a variety of issues ranging from mental/sexual/physical trauma to navigating the legal process of arriving in Canada and gaining appropriate status. She has worked with people across cultures, countries, and languages. Previously, she worked in a private practice serving primarily clients of Nigerian descent and has a strong sense of multiculturalism as a mosaic, as opposed to falling into place and melting/assimilating into the pot of the culture of Canada. She is looking forward to being a part of our practice to continue to serve clients experiencing difficulties with acculturation, immigration- and status-related depression and anxiety, and/or increased stress due to personal trauma. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us as soon as possible to book an appointment with Hastee.
